ROPS is next on my list...I have started looking. For such a basic (and simple) piece of anti-liability you would think that the manufacturers would be making them very available at basically cost. HehIn any case I am considering making one...all that I have read cautions people not make them...but they seem quite basic. Is there something I am missing?Especially on a tractor like the small fords it would seem like a homebuilder would be more likely to overbuild it than underbuild it.I have looked at Oaktree's rops that he made and it looks very nice.Thanks for the concernKim ....

Looks loke you are into some serious logging. Have you considered building your ROPS as a cage to give added protection from falling tree limbs, branches, and the like? Something along the lines of what you see on a current model dozer. Think the big concern with home made ROPS systems is the quality of the materials and workmanship, particularly welds. I have been looking for an affordable ROPS for my IH 254 without success. I plan to build a cage type ROPS and a grille guard this winter. ....

Kim - when I moved into my farm 3 years ago there was a big box in the garage, which sat there for 2 years. One day I opened it up, and there was a brand new ROPS, with seatbelt and all hardware, for the tractor the previous owner had. Apparently it wouldn't fit in the garage with the rops on, so they left it off. I think it is from an early 1980's Allis-Chalmers ( or Deutz-Allis) 2015 or 2020, a midsize tractor about as big as a Ford 6000. If you can figure out a way to get it, you can have it. Maybe with some brackets welded on it would go. I live near Syracuse, New York.Paul ....

If you are competent with a welder you can build a ROPS. It is not rocket science. If you want guidlines on roll over protection for reference just see your local auto racing sanctioning body (SCCA, USAC, etc). A race car roll cage/bar is a tough structure and is overkill for a compact tractor. I would not recommend copying what is often mounted in the bed of trucks as a lot of these are just for show and are thin wall tubing. Make sure you mount it to sturdy structure and use good grade fasteners. I will be building one for my little excavator soon as I'm tired of being bashed by tree parts while "logging". ....

You guys are getting too sophisticated for me. I don't check the board for a week and when I do log on, the whole thing is in living color. I must admit I like it. It makes some of the stuff a lot easier to understand now if I could only convince my wife that I really, really need one of those digital cameras ..... ....
